Ai Ai, who played the lead role in the original 2003 comedy film and its three sequels, stated that it started when she had an interview during a press conference as the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of MC Aesthetics.
According to her, she had a conversation with Roxy Liquigan of Star Cinema about the possibility of making a reunion movie. It was after Ai Ai’s producer expressed her desire to produce a movie, where Ai Ai responded with her dream to have a “Tanging Ina” reunion.
She mentioned seeing her former co-stars Xyriel Manabat and Jiro Manio on social media as inspiration for the idea.
Ai Ai claimed to have learned that Star Cinema might be requesting the removal of news articles regarding her interest in the project, saying, “May nakarating kasi sa akin na balita na isa raw sa Star Cinema ang gustong ipa-down ‘yong news regarding do’n sa Star Cinema na ‘Tanging Ina’ chuchu.”
"Ang dating sakin parang nao-off ako, parang ang nagtataka ako at parang naloloka ako na bakit may pa-down ang datingan na ganon. Parang ang dating sa akin bakit hindi ba totoo 'yun? Totoo 'yun," she stated in her video.
“Inassume ko lang naman to na baka ayaw niyo maassociate sa akin?” she supposed before adding, “Bakit? Pinagkakitaan n’yo naman ako dati sa Star Cinema, ‘di ba?”
“O, edi hindi na. ‘Wag na nating gawin… Iba na lang. Ibang pelikula na lang. O, eh ‘di sa inyo na ‘yan!” she added.
Meanwhile, Star Cinema has not yet issued any response, reaction, or statement regarding Ai Ai's statements.
